In 2020, music producer and DJ Aric Christopher snapped up this High Desert property in Pioneertown, CA, for $500,000. He then embarked on a major renovation of the place, which is situated near Joshua Tree National Park.

Referred to as Know Where Ranch, and boasting an Instagram account with nearly 15,000 followers, the four-bedroom, 2.5-bath, haute home in the desert clocks in at 2,800 square feet. It’s on the market for $1,395,000.

“He transformed this ordinary ranch-style home,” notes Keith Markovitz, with TTK Represents with Compass, of the owner. The 2.5-acre spread now offers “all new kitchen, bathrooms, flooring … a bohemian, modern California rustic atmosphere.”

It’s named for the iconic Know Where Bar in Los Angeles and operates as a vacation-home rental and private-event space.

Built in 2001, “it’s a really fun place to entertain,” Markovitz says of the property, which includes a barn, reborn into a stylish bar.

In the kitchen, a huge island with plentiful bar seating is ripe for gathering, too.

The primary suite—referred to as the Roy Rogers Suite—features a claw-foot tub in the marble bathroom and reclaimed-wood planks highlighting the interior.

Other of the home’s advantages include solar panels and views of the Sawtooth Mountain Range—particularly from the pool. Outdoor amenities include a horse corral, an outdoor TV, a dining area, and gas fire pit.

Pioneertown was established in 1946 as an 1880s-themed, Western-style film set. Popular venues include Pappy and Harriets, a restaurant and live-music venue.

“Pioneertown proper and the high desert in general has become a popular place for people to find enormous skies and large pieces of land,” Markovitz says. “People are looking for escapes from cities.”

What makes this property rise above the rest, however, is the refreshing, infinity-edge pool and proximity to lively Mane Street.

It’s also well suited to continue its life as a short-term rental.

“Places with swimming pools tend to do well here,” Markovitz says. “To be a successful short-term rental in the desert, you need a Jacuzzi at minimum, but a swimming pool changes the numbers.”

Markovitz is targeting a few types of potential buyers.

“Some are looking for their own escapes and a place to enjoy the desert,” he says. “Some already own pieces of land in the high desert and are exploring this idea, because they feel it could have great rental potential.”

Markovitz, along with Shaun Alan-Lee, of Carolwood Estates; and Clayton Baldwin, at Compass; all hold the listing.
