This St. Petersburg, FL, house with a cylindrical roof is roundly meant for entertaining.
The tube-shaped home on La Plaza Avenue South has an aluminum roof with an elastomeric roof covering and soundproofing, perfect for throwing a party without bothering the neighbors. But it probably does impress them.
“Everybody that walks into the house, it’s like a ‘wow’ factor. It changes the whole dynamic. It’s not a flat ceiling. It’s a round ceiling inside the home,” says listing agent Jill Helgren, with Coastal Properties Group.
“There’s nothing else like it, and the materials they used in the home are very unique,” Helgren says.
The current owner is an interior designer who bought what Helgren calls a dilapidated barn in 2016 for around $80,000.
“Instead of taking it down to the ground, they decided to do this and gut it and build it this way,” she says.

The unique design is ideal for Florida weather, she adds. The roof is “flexible, so it expands and contracts with the heat and weather changes. It’s reflective and resists certain residues and is energy-efficient because of the white reflection.”

The one-bedroom, two-bathroom home is listed for $1.2 million. The price includes a detached garage, which currently has a pool table, lofted bedroom, and office.
The upper level includes the bedroom, a bath, and access to a deck overlooking the backyard.
The fun-filled compound features a back area with a pool, hot tub, and seating areas.
“The whole house is set up for entertaining,” Helgren says. There’s a bar and a kitchen with four ovens.

From the cook area, a door leads to an outdoor kitchen near the pool.
“It’s really outdoor living at its finest,” Helgren says. The quarter-acre lot includes plenty of outdoor space for tables and anything else people want.
The home is next to a walking and biking trail that goes for more than 40 miles.

This house isn’t cookie-cutter, and that’s precisely the point, Helgren says. “It has a very warm and welcoming vibe, and ultramodern.”
