Renowned Arts and Crafts-era silversmith and architect William Waldo Dodge<\/strong> built the house<\/a> in Biltmore Forest, NC<\/a>, in 1927 as his residence and workshop.<\/p>\n

Recently reimagined by its current owners, the home is being offered for $1.4 million.<\/p>\n

Dodge was a leading figure in Asheville\u2019s architectural scene. He died in 1971 after building historically significant buildings in the area, many of which are still standing.<\/p>\n

Listing agent Marilyn Wright<\/strong>, with Premier Sotheby\u2019s International Realty, helped the sellers buy the home, which she calls a \u201cone-of-a-kind property.\u201d She remembers her initial impression of the place.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw the potential that day of what it could be, and that\u2019s what it is today,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Many of Dodge\u2019s original design elements remain, including the weathervane, railings, light fixtures, and leaded windows, among others.<\/p>\n

Some \u201cwindows are original, and the handles are each handcrafted,\u201d Wright says. Dodge \u201chad some local artisans come and do the carvings that you see, and there are gargoyles on the house. It has a lot of details that are fitting for the area that he pulled into the house.\u201d<\/p>\n

One bedroom, two baths, and lots of comfy living space comprise the 1,439-square-foot cottage.<\/p>\n

The kitchen is outfitted with under-counter appliances and a gas log fireplace. Wright says it\u2019s her favorite part of the house.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe light from the old windows and the leaded glass is almost like you\u2019re looking through a kaleidoscope when the sun is shining,\u201d she says. \u201cYou\u2019re overlooking the front lawn and the rear gardens. It is a true forest cottage.\u201d<\/p>\n

The sellers bought the house from George Vanderbilt<\/strong>\u2019s grandson and have used it as a second home. They decided to put it on the market, because they weren\u2019t spending as much time there as they once did.<\/p>\n

So, what type of buyer might be attracted to this enchanting abode? Wright thinks it could be someone familiar with the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe they grew up in Biltmore Forest<\/a> and want a little something in Asheville<\/a>, and they appreciate the architectural elements and significance of the home,\u201d Wright speculates.<\/p>\n

Biltmore Forest<\/a> is a tiny town between the famed Biltmore Estate<\/a>, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Asheville<\/a>. It\u2019s the second wealthiest town in the state\u2014impressive, given its population of just over 1,400.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have their own police department, they have their own garbage sanitation department,\u201d Wright notes. \u201cYou have a town hall. It\u2019s just a very Americana, small-town feel\u2014but it is an affluent area.\u201d<\/p>\n
