A rare opportunity to own Joseph Eichler<\/strong>\u2018s personal residence<\/a> has landed on the market in Atherton, CA<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Priced at $6,385,000, the five-bedroom midcentury home has already received plenty of interest, according to listing agent Eric Boyenga<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis residence was a collaborative effort of notable creators, most prominently the architectural firm Anshen and Allen,\u201d says Boyenga. \u201cBob Anshen<\/strong> in particular was a devotee of Frank Lloyd Wright<\/strong> and played a pivotal role in designing Eichler\u2019s residence.\u201d<\/p>\n

As you would expect of a home from a Wright devotee, the design<\/a> perfectly models the Usonian ideals of simplicity, natural materials, and a harmonious blend with the environment. Eichler apparently lived in the home from the time of its construction in 1951 until 1965.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey implemented an innovative open floor plan, large glass walls, triangular motifs, and indoor-outdoor living spaces,\u201d Boyenga says.<\/p>\n

The home\u2019s aesthetic is probably familiar to Eichler fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis design approach was groundbreaking at the time and became a signature element of Eichler homes, influencing residential architecture across America,\u201d Boyenga says.<\/p>\n

Eichler went on to build some 11,000 tract homes, mainly across California, from 1949-1970s, tapping architects Anshen & Allen, Claude Oakland, and A. Quincy Jones. Those midcentury modern builds have come to be known as Eichlers, after their developer. They continue to be popular, all these decades later, for their fantastic and timeless features.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis architectural feature allows for fewer supporting walls, which contributes to the open, airy feeling of the interiors and a smoother transition to the outdoor spaces,\u201d Boyenga says. \u201cStrategically placed skylights brighten up interior spaces and reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pricy location of this historic, brick-and-redwood-clad residence is also notable.<\/p>\n

\u201cLindenwood is a prestigious and affluent neighborhood known for its luxurious homes and tranquil, tree-lined streets,\u201d Boyenga says. \u201cNestled in the heart of Silicon Valley, its quiet and private atmosphere makes it a desirable location for those seeking both luxury and seclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n

The .9-acre property also comes with a spacious swimming pool and private backyard terrace.<\/p>\n

Boyenga calls the home a \u201cliving piece of art\u201d\u2014a midcentury-modern showpiece.<\/p>\n

\u201cRepresenting it is not just about a sale,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s about stewarding a piece of architectural history.\u201d<\/p>\n
