Bob Turley <\/strong>initially made his mark pitching for the New York Yankees<\/strong> in the 1950s and 60s and won four World Series rings.<\/p>\n

His second stint with success came in the arena of finance and real estate.<\/p>\n

Now, the 13,262-square-foot winter estate<\/a> he built for himself in the late 1980s in Marco Island, FL<\/a>, is available for $16.5 million. Turley sold the home a couple of decades ago, but his legacy lives on.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s definitely an iconic property on Marco Island\u2014it\u2019s called the Turley Mansion,\u201d says listing agent Cathy Rogers<\/strong>, with Premier Sotheby\u2019s International Realty. \u201cThis house is like none other that I have seen, and you won\u2019t see another one like this. It\u2019s opulent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turley, aka Bullet Bob, won the Cy Young Award in 1958 and was the World Series MVP that same season. After retiring from baseball in 1963, he co-founded a financial company that would become Primerica. He also began buying and selling homes in Florida, including this one, which is also known as Greystone Manor.<\/p>\n

Intricately painted barrel ceilings are one of the estate\u2019s many lavish details.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the grand salon, they flew in Italian artisans to do the ceiling,\u201d Rogers says. \u201cWhen you first walk in, it\u2019s just jaw-dropping with the ceiling. There are no words. You just go, \u2018Oh my God, this is beautiful.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Those ceilings soar 25 feet over the open living area.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy favorite thing is when you \u2026 see that ceiling, and then your eye goes right to the veranda and the water,\u201d Rogers says. \u2018You can stand on that veranda and just see the whole property.\u201d<\/p>\n

The property includes 190 feet of waterfront with a 100-foot dock in deep water. The one-of-a-kind home sits on nearly 3 acres, which is rare on Marco Island, Rogers notes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just beautiful to look out and there\u2019s nothing but bay, and then the Gulf is right around the corner,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

The home\u2019s sumptuous interior features a chef\u2019s kitchen, six bedrooms, and seven bathrooms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe [primary] bedroom is just unbelievable,\u201d Rogers says. \u201cIt\u2019s got Venetian plaster ceilings, and the [primary] bath is something you could live in. It\u2019s beautiful. There\u2019s so much detail in this house.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turley died in 2013 but had already sold this mansion in 1996. It has changed hands several times since, including at an auction in 2019 and again in 2022, when it sold for $10 million. Rogers says the current price accurately reflects the market.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been added on to a couple of times,\u201d she notes. \u201cIt\u2019s got different themes in different parts of the house \u2026 it\u2019s kind of historically opulent; but then you go downstairs, and there is a contemporary bar down there and a family room that\u2019s more cozy.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the landscaped gardens, pool, tennis courts, and more, the home is abundantly appointed inside and out.<\/p>\n

Rogers believes the ideal buyer for the home is \u201csomeone who does a lot of entertaining.\u201d<\/p>\n
