It\u2019s also an architectural masterpiece firmly footed in the Arts and Crafts movement, designed by C.F. Jobson<\/strong>, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright<\/strong>. It\u2019s available for\u00a0$1,950,000.<\/p>\n

Built in 1908, the seven-bedroom, five-bath home has had six owners. The sellers held on to it for over three decades and made improvements over time.<\/p>\n

Lindsey Paulus<\/strong>, of @properties Western Springs<\/a>, holds the listing.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir main focus was to take it back to the original intent of the builder,\u201d Paulus says of the homeowners\u2019 many renovations.<\/p>\n

Updates include a remodeled kitchen with quarter-sawn, oak cabinetry and maple flooring\u2014two common choices for homes of that era. And for a classic look, a butler\u2019s pantry was added.<\/p>\n

What was previously a porch has been transformed into a family room. The primary bath was also remodeled.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe dining room built-ins and their leaded-glass doors were also restored,\u201d Paulus says.<\/p>\n

Boasting an open floor plan, all three stories of the house feature high ceilings, including some that are coved. Paulus explains that the top floor\u2019s three bedrooms are \u201cthe size of bedrooms you\u2019d expect on a second level, plus a bathroom, storage, and closet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other original features include the stained-glass front doors, terra cotta tile in the entry, sconces in the music room (which features pocket doors), and three fireplaces throughout.<\/p>\n

In the finished basement, there\u2019s a billiard room, five windows, and a wood-burning fireplace.<\/p>\n

The home\u2019s furnishings can be negotiated for an additional cost.<\/p>\n

Outdoor oasis<\/h2>\n

Outdoors, the surroundings include winding stone paths, a fire pit, and a 40-foot stream and koi pond. Another rare gem is the restored, outdoor greenhouse, built in the 1930s.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve restored it and redone the floor,\u201d Paulus says of the greenhouse. \u201cThe windows and ceiling are original. They love being out there in the snow and having cocktails.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another perk of the property is the lot size\u2014more than a third of an acre.<\/p>\n

\u201cJobson tended to build houses on very large properties,\u201d Paulus says. \u201cFifty feet is a typical lot but theirs is currently 119 feet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tucked into the La Grange<\/a> Village Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, the property is near three Wright-designed homes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a short walk to downtown La Grange, with so many restaurants and shops that you don\u2019t even have to leave town,\u201d says Paulus.<\/p>\n

A Metra rail station with access to downtown Chicago<\/a> is three blocks from the home.<\/p>\n

\u201cA large majority of the buyers coming out to La Grange are young families looking to get out of the city and get some space and want easy access to parks and walking distance to things \u2026 a little less hustle and bustle environment,\u201d Paulus says. \u201cIt\u2019s a pretty easy transition from urban to suburban, because we do have all of those urban perks.\u201d<\/p>\n
