The 150-year-old, 3,818-square-foot property was listed last month for $1,995,000. The home last changed hands in 2008 for $488,700, according to Realtor.com\u00ae.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe home was constructed circa 1873 as one of the first schools in Athens,\u201d says listing agent Jarrett Martin<\/strong><\/a>, of Corcoran Classic Living. \u201cThere are three other properties on the block that were a part of the original schoolyard that have also been converted to residences.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although the house has changed quite a bit since its school days, much of the original charm remains\u2014including the decorative, pitched gables of the exterior and the interior\u2019s wide-open spaces.<\/p>\n

The spaces were also fully modernized in a 2018 renovation that included new plumbing and electric, as well as a roof replacement and fresh exterior paint.<\/p>\n

Outside, contemporary details further add to the the home<\/a>\u2018s overall cozy factor\u2014there\u2019s a\u00a0koi pond, mature trees, and a garden filled with a variety of annuals and perennials. Just beyond the garden gates, the next owners will find themselves within a short stroll of numerous local restaurants, shops, bars, and live music venues.<\/p>\n

\u201cAthens has a great restaurant scene, and many of those restaurants are within walking distance,\u201d Martin points out, adding that \u201cfamous music venues like Georgia Theater and 40 Watt Club are just 10 minutes away.\u201d<\/p>\n
