\u201cSome people build \u2018wow\u2019 estates here;\u00a0this one really blends in to the coastline,\u201d says Dano Sayles<\/strong>,\u00a0of Coldwell Banker Island Properties<\/a>. He\u2019s representing the $36 million property. \u201cIt\u2019s under the radar to the public, but [still] over the top. The house is like a piece of art.\u201d<\/p>\n

Located in Kihei, HI<\/a>, the high-priced home also recently popped up on the list of most expensive homes on Realtor.com\u00ae.<\/p>\n

With only one owner, the .47-acre property is perfectly perched 16 feet above White Rocks Beach (also called Palau\u2019ea Beach), where it has 120 feet of ocean frontage.<\/p>\n

The four-bedroom, 4.5-bath home was designed by local architect Rich Young<\/strong>. It took almost a decade to bring the 4,802-square-foot home to fruition. The process took several years of securing building permits, and the house was completed in 2015.<\/p>\n

Because of local building regulations, reconstructing a property identical to this one would not only be expensive but nearly impossible.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s challenging to build on Maui these days, because it\u2019s all in a special management area,\u201d Sayles says, adding that it\u2019s still the case \u201ceven if you have all the money in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

With this listing, \u201cit\u2019s already done,\u201d he says. \u201cYou don\u2019t have to do through a decade of challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n

And he insists the price tag is in line with other high-dollar markets.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re comparing Maui to Malibu or Bellevue (Washington), price per square foot, I see a lot of value here,\u201d he says. Buyers \u201clook at Maui and, even at $30 or $40 million, there\u2019s a lot of value for what you get.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hand-hewn coral, cedar ceilings, travertine tile, and cedar-wood shingles are some of the building materials here that riff on the natural surroundings. The home also has copper gutters and Fleetwood sliding-glass doors.<\/p>\n

Attention to detail is evident. Local Ohia wood, sourced from the Big Island, is seen in lanai posts and under the roof eaves and trellis. There\u2019s also a carved mahogany door with an outrigger canoe and oarsmen theme, as well as Hawaiian newel posts forged out of walnut.<\/p>\n

Suited for entertaining, the property\u2019s tropical grounds are accentuated with a grill, pizza oven, Tiki torches, stepping stones, and a pool.<\/p>\n

The next owner will have celebrity neighbors\u2014Jeff Bezos<\/strong><\/a> and Oprah Winfrey<\/a><\/strong>, specifically.<\/p>\n

And when it comes to the local climate, South Maui\u2019s weather is an unbeatable draw.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have very little seasonal change,\u201d Sayles notes. \u201cTypically, the weather\u2019s going to be from 83 degrees to 88 degrees year-round.\u201d<\/p>\n

The home is also near three championship golf courses, a private golf club, and tennis and pickleball facilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe owners built this home for themselves and for their children,\u201d says Sayles. \u201cThis is the type of compound that could be passed on from generation to generation. It\u2019s that special.\u201d<\/p>\n
