The home known as Stephan\u2019s Folly<\/a> dates to 1965, when architect Robert Lewis <\/strong>designed the 3,250-square-foot home that\u2019s now on the market for $1.85 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe owner of the house was a famous plumber\u2014he had a lot of TV commercials, and people remember his ads based on the jingles,\u201d says listing agent Alex Dethier<\/strong>, with Paul Kaplan Group Palm Springs.<\/p>\n

Dethier notes that many people come to look at the house and often pipe up with the locally famous jingle\u2019s memorable catch phrase,\u00a0Adee Do<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The plumber behind the unforgettable ads was Jack Stephan<\/strong>\u2014a man with equally indelible decor tastes. He bought the home in 1969 and lived there until he died in 2014.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 1971, he had it redecorated and spent about $150,000 at the time,\u201d Dethier says. \u201cAll custom wallpapers, carpets, drapes, everything. Much of what is inside is original.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although the home\u2019s had multiple owners since Stephan\u2019s death, those folks have kept mostly everything intact.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s very cool,\u201d Dethier says. \u201cIt\u2019s not my style, but so well done that it\u2019s actually quite spectacular. [Stephan\u2019s] favorite color was red, so it\u2019s very red and orange centric, and it\u2019s very warm in there, very cozy. It\u2019s as cozy as the photos look.\u201d<\/p>\n

The dazzlingly retro abode has four bedrooms and three full baths. Dethier says the standout design, taken as a whole, is what makes the place so unique.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou go from room to room, and there are different styles and textures and design elements,\u201d he says. \u201cIf you used one of these items individually in one house, I don\u2019t think it would work; but the fact that it\u2019s so over the top makes the house special.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an area that\u2019s well known for embracing the indoor-outdoor lifestyle, this particular house is more about the interior spaces.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great house to entertain and be comfortable and lounge and have a cocktail\u2014or mocktail,\u201d Dethier says. \u201cIt has a nice kidney pool. \u2026 I don\u2019t think that\u2019s the main feature of the house, but you could easily make it a feature of the house.\u201d<\/p>\n

Most of what\u2019s seen in the home\u2019s listing photos conveys with the sale, including the beds, couches, ottomans, and other furnishings.<\/p>\n

Dethier says the striking house would make a great weekend getaway.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t tell people what to do once they own the property,\u201d he acknowledges. \u201cI just think it\u2019s such an iconic house and design that it would be too bad if someone altered it too much. I think it deserves to be appreciated, and that\u2019s why I hope someone buys it and keeps it as is.\u201d<\/p>\n
