The Detroit<\/a> mansion where a well-respected neurosurgeon was found shot to death this spring has hit the market<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On April 23, police found the naked body of Dr. Devon Hoover<\/strong> in a crawl space in the attic of his Italianate mansion during a welfare check, according to the New York Post<\/a>. The spinal specialist had been shot twice in the back of the head and was wrapped in a plastic sheet.<\/p>\n

Hoover lived alone and was reportedly single. Several days after his body was discovered, his car was found on the west side of Detroit.<\/p>\n

The sprawling, seven-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom mansion<\/a> in the Boston-Edison District<\/a> was listed this month for $2.5 million. The historically landmarked Benjamin Siegel House was built in 1915 on more than 2 acres.<\/p>\n

The main home spans more than 11,000 square feet and includes its own ballroom. There is a separate 1,300-square-foot carriage house with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and space for three cars. The property includes a greenhouse with a herringbone-patterned, brick floor.<\/p>\n

Detroit-area real estate agent Tom Nanes<\/strong>, who is not affiliated with the property, expects the home will sell at a discount<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a big house and not everybody can afford it,\u201d says Nanes, of Community Choice Realty. High mortgage rates<\/a>, concerns about the economy, and a war in the Middle East are scaring off many buyers. \u201cRight now, the market is bipolar. It\u2019s all over the place.\u201d<\/p>\n

He anticipates the tragedy that transpired on the property will also scare off many potential buyers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis may be too soon for the creepy factor,\u201d he says of the home going up for sale about six months after the brutal killing. \u201cSome people like notoriety. Some people can\u2019t deal with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hoover purchased the property in 2008 for $750,000, according to property records.<\/p>\n

Detroit Police Chief\u00a0James White\u00a0<\/strong>recently said the department had a suspect and was \u201cvery confident\u201d they would be able to provide justice for the doctor\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

Neighbors and friends spoke highly of Hoover, who worked at St. John Ascension.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis man is nonconfrontational. He wouldn\u2019t even evict a tenant who hadn\u2019t paid in a year. This man had no enemies,\u201d Hoover\u2019s neighbor Jeff Cowin <\/strong>told ABC affiliate WXYZ<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hoover\u2019s mother died four days after he was killed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is like a bad movie,\u201d says Nanes.<\/p>\n
