An admittedly striking\u00a0property<\/a> in Escondido, CA<\/a>, \u201cwill change you forever,\u201d the listing insists. And since the place reportedly once provided enough produce to fill a grocery store, maybe that claim isn\u2019t just real estate hyperbole.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it was the best house I\u2019ve ever seen in my entire life,\u201d says listing agent Sabrina Covington<\/strong>, of Covington & Associates, recalling the first time she saw the place. \u201cThe land itself is so unique, with the walking paths and garden.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 3,894-square-foot home, which was built in 1987, is listed for $5,990,000.<\/p>\n

The five-tier, organic garden on a 2.3-acre lot once harvested all the produce for a market the current homeowner previously operated. Apples, bananas, aloe vera, berries, figs, peaches, pears, plums, Meyer lemons, pomegranate, grapefruit, avocado, lime, and grapes are among the delights grown on the property.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe garden is animal-proof and irrigated, so I think someone with any inkling of gardening could probably do very well there,\u201d Covington says.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe seller is one of the most unique people I have ever known,\u201d Covington says. \u201cShe sees the home in a certain light and knows what she thinks it is worth.\u201d<\/p>\n

The house has four bedrooms and three full bathrooms, one of which made a real impression on Covington.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s going to sound really odd that the downstairs bathroom is one of my favorites,\u201d she admits, with a laugh. \u201cIt\u2019s really trending now to have a really epic bathroom. It has green-speckled travertine, floor to ceiling. It has a globe light in it. It\u2019s just kind of an experience bathroom.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Modern maximalism\u2019<\/h2>\n

Covington observes that the home\u2019s unique character combines modern design with what she calls \u201cSouthern clutter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s modern maximalism, I would maybe call it,\u201d she says, adding that the seller took a lot of pride in the home\u2019s aesthetic.<\/p>\n

Garden designer Anthony Archer-Wills<\/strong> flew in from Europe to create the water-garden area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe dogs kind of run around it, and it is a water element with a waterfall and rocks that separate it from the pool,\u201d Covington says.<\/p>\n

The homeowner refers to the water feature as \u201cthe bog.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI kind of have fun watching people walk in\u201d Covington says, adding that the kitchen sometimes leaves people \u201cspeechless.\u201d<\/p>\n

She explains that the owner is parting with the place because she\u2019s ready to downsize.<\/p>\n

\u201cEscondido is very up-and-coming as a city,\u201d Covington remarks. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot happening here. [The perfect buyer] \u201cis someone that wants to stay in SoCal and stay warm but be away from the hustle and bustle.\u201d<\/p>\n
