The five-bedroom home in Egremont, MA<\/a>, was built in 1950 and just hit the market for $1,499,000.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy parents bought what was then a small house in South Egremont in 1975,\u201d says\u00a0Alison Simard, <\/strong>the daughter of the owners.\u00a0\u201cOver the years, they have added some incredible architectural features. As I like to say, Shakespeare could have slept here. Their home now has a gigantic great room made from 1540s wood that came from a barn in Kent, England.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simard is assisting her parents with the sale. She says letting go of the home, which is in the Berkshires on the border between New York and Connecticut, has been bittersweet for her entire family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was married there,\u201d she says. \u201cIt was a place of joy and entertainment for my kids and a respite during Covid.\u201d<\/p>\n

1950s meet 1540s<\/h2>\n

\u201cThe most impressive thing in this home is the 1540s barn construction that was added onto the home,\u201d says\u00a0Mary White<\/strong>, who is the co-listing agent with Michael Harrigan<\/strong>, both of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Barnbrook Realty.<\/p>\n

Along with a touch of history, the addition was a practical improvement.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrior to this, the home was a small vacation home that didn\u2019t have any room that was big enough to entertain,\u201d White says. \u201cThey found a local architect who helped put the plans together to construct it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The addition was completed in 1998 and features a lofted seating area, stone fireplace, and oversized windows that serve up serene mountain views.<\/p>\n

The main home has five bedrooms, four full baths, wood-paneled walls, exposed-beam ceilings, and many windows for an abundance of natural light.<\/p>\n

A spacious kitchen, with a large center island, has been updated over the years and opens to a patio and screened porch.<\/p>\n

The 5.7-acre lot boasts a swimming pool and spring-fed pond. The primary suite offers a spa tub, separate steam shower, and accesses a private balcony.<\/p>\n

\u2018Beautiful location\u2019<\/h2>\n

\u201cIt is also located in a very desirable neighborhood,\u201d White says. \u201cI think the next buyer will be someone who is looking to use it as a second home. We are halfway between New York<\/a> and Boston<\/a>\u00a0and get a lot of sales from both cities. People come here looking for a vacation home and then decide to retire there. It could absolutely be used as a primary residence, as well. It is a beautiful location.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also convenient to many attractions, for those who would consider it as a vacation getaway.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can walk to the village of Egremont,\u201d White says. \u201cIt\u2019s about a half-hour drive to Tanglewood\u2014for outdoor concerts in the summer\u2014and about 2.5 hours from New York and Boston.\u201d<\/p>\n
