Built in 1955 in\u00a0Pasadena, CA <\/a>, the exceptional dwelling was originally created by notable architect Lyman Ennis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Known as the Ennis House, the well-preserved home is listing with Chelby Crawford<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0at Compass, for $2,595,000\u2014a $105,000 reduction from its original $2,700,000 asking price in January.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re a midcentury modern enthusiast, you know who [Ennis] is,\u201d says Crawford, elaborating on the famed architect\u2019s philosophy. \u201cHe pulled the outdoors inside, so a small house would feel larger than it was.\u201d<\/p>\n

A post-and-beam style was employed for the 1,928-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bath residence.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the seller bought it, it wasn\u2019t in its pristine, midcentury condition,\u201d Crawford says.<\/p>\n

Four years after the $370,000 purchase in 1996, the seller launched into extensive renovations.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe spent some time living there, envisioning what he wanted,\u201d Crawford says. \u201cHe tore it down to the studs and completely restored it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the improvements were the additions of a hillside pool and spa that take advantage of the property\u2019s spectacular views.<\/p>\n

Other design features include a stone-stacked fireplace and slate flooring. The modernizations add contemporary luxuries \u201cwhile respectfully preserving the original design,\u201d the listing notes.<\/p>\n

The kitchen was outfitted with high-end appliances\u2014a Gaggenau oven and range, Sub-Zero fridge, and a Fisher and Paykel dishwasher\u2014along with stainless steel countertops and a marble island with seating.<\/p>\n

Plus, \u201cthe house is built on granite,\u201d Crawford says. \u201cIt\u2019s solid as a rock.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perched at the end of a private road with views of the San Gabriel Mountains, the downtown Los Angeles skyline, and The Rose Bowl, this property\u2019s all about privacy. Being so close to the golf club is like having a park in the backyard, too.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very private, serene, peaceful, and quiet,\u201d says Crawford. \u201cYou share the space with the hawks and owls.\u201d<\/p>\n

A neighboring empty lot spanning 9,048 square feet is also included in the sale.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe target buyer is edgy, not necessarily young, but maybe the musician or artist type who appreciates art and not just architecture,\u201d Crawford says. \u201cWe\u2019ve had celebrity-status people interested. We\u2019ve had a lot of golfers show interest due to being near Avondale Golf Club, and [also] a lot of designers with young children.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ennis was based in Pasadena for some 40 years and designed dozens of contemporary homes throughout Southern California during his career. He died<\/a> in 2009.<\/p>\n

In fact, another Pasadena house designed by the architect\u2014a three-bedroom, one-bath property built in 1956\u2014just sold for $4,030,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n
