A well-traveled baseball closer is hoping to close the deal on a custom home he built just a few years ago.<\/p>\n

All-Star Mark Melancon<\/strong> commissioned a luxurious, 5,921-square-foot waterfront home in Holmes Beach, FL<\/a>, for his family in 2020.<\/p>\n

After hitting the market last year for $14.8 million<\/a>, the home has been relisted for $10.95 million.<\/p>\n

Relocation to yet another big-league town has spurred the owners to sell.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey lived in the house for a couple of years; and as a professional baseball player, right now he\u2019s playing out West, so he had to relocate his family,\u201d says listing agent Charles Buky<\/strong>, with Coldwell Banker Realty.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have three small children, and it was just getting harder and harder to move multiple times throughout the year,\u201d Buky says. \u201cSo that\u2019s the only reason they\u2019re selling.\u201d<\/p>\n

Melancon is employed by the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/strong>, although he\u2019s on the injured list with a shoulder strain that threatens to keep him out for months.<\/p>\n

As for the sizable discount, it\u2019s a dose of reality for a family that truly didn\u2019t want to part with their home in the Sunshine State.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were going back and forth about whether they really wanted to sell, because they love this house so much,\u201d Buky explains.\u00a0\u201cThey really did not want to sell in the beginning, and that\u2019s why the price was where it was. But now they\u2019re at the point where they\u2019re taking the selling process more seriously and priced the property where the market says it should be.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Functional wow house\u2019<\/h2>\n

The home sits on a third-acre and comes with two deep-water docks.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s right on Bimini Bay on Anna Maria Island and has water on two sides, since it\u2019s on a point,\u201d Buky says. \u201cThere are just gorgeous views overlooking the bay and wildlife. They built the house around the bay with that feel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even with the serious square footage and six bedrooms, the house feels very comfortable.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s functional, but it still has the wow factors\u2014so it\u2019s a functional wow house,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

The home has several entertaining spaces, including a game room, wine room, and a kitchen with a 16-foot island.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no wasted space in it, so whether you\u2019re a retired couple, a single person, or someone with a big family, I think this house is accommodating,\u201d Buky says.<\/p>\n

Outside, the putting green has a sand trap, and there\u2019s an infinity pool that appears as if it\u2019s draining right into the bay.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe views are what makes the property what it is,\u201d Buky says, noting that because the home is on Florida\u2019s west coast, instead of the east side, the price tag is more accessible.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think if you were over in the West Palm Beach<\/a> area, this house would be about 60 to 70% more,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Buky says the area has a comfortable feel with a combination of full-and part-time residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a lifestyle,\u201d he says. \u201cYou\u2019re able to do everything. You have your boat in your backyard. You can go out and catch dinner and then cook it in the outdoor kitchen. It\u2019s the ultimate Florida lifestyle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Melancon, 38, broke into the big leagues with the New York Yankees in 2009. The four-time All Star has suited up for eight other teams since then and has racked up 262 saves over the course of his career.<\/p>\n
