A stacked-stone castle looks like it could be almost anywhere in Europe, but it\u2019s actually in the hills overlooking Fayetteville, AR<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dromborg Castle<\/a> is more than 8,800 square feet of luxury, set on 40 acres with a pond. The house is listed for $4,999,000.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019Drom\u2019 means dream and \u2018borg\u2019 means big,\u201d owner Joan Johnson <\/strong>explains of the castle\u2019s name.<\/p>\n

Indeed, it was a dreamy drive through the French countryside that inspired her and husband Bruce <\/strong>to build the home.<\/p>\n

Fit for a castle<\/h2>\n

\u201cWe went after something on the outside that looked like many structures built on over time,\u201d Johnson says. \u201cAnd then on the inside, it\u2019s a very efficient home of today\u2014with classical architecture.\u201d<\/p>\n

After five years of construction and $13 million spent, the home was finished in 2007.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs much as they could with modern construction, they incorporated authentic methods,\u201d explains Tim Salmonsen<\/strong>, who is co-listing the property with his son,\u00a0Ben Salmonsen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The home\u2019s grandeur is apparent when you first walk in.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou come into the main door, which is a massive wooden door that is just perfectly fit for a castle,\u201d Ben Salmonsen says. \u201cYou come in, and you\u2019ve got this radiant heating for the floors; and it\u2019s warm, it\u2019s cozy, and it\u2019s quiet. It\u2019s almost silent. It\u2019s not like a wood home, where you can hear it creaking and cracking. It\u2019s just a solid home.\u201d<\/p>\n

The primary bedroom and three others are on the main floor. Two more bedrooms are on the second floor, along with a kitchenette.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has a really historic feel, even though it is not a historic property,\u201d Tim Salmonsen says. \u201cYou feel like you step back in time when you walk in.\u201d<\/p>\n

The impressive backyard area includes a small plunge pool, and there\u2019s room nearby to add a larger pool.<\/p>\n

Back in 2015, the castle was the state\u2019s most expensive listing<\/a>, at $15 million. But that listing included about 60 more acres and a guesthouse, which have since been sold.<\/p>\n

The castle has a 70-foot observation tower, which offers remarkable vistas.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is amazing,\u201d Tim Salmonsen says. \u201cYou can see the entire downtown and the main campus of the University of Arkansas. You can see for miles. It\u2019s just a wonderful view from that tower.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Fantastic home\u2019<\/h2>\n

While the Johnsons have lived in the castle full time, the listing agents suggest that the home would be a perfect event space, given its large great room, multiple bedrooms, gorgeous views, and plenty of land.<\/p>\n

The owners have hosted many gatherings on the property during their time there.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would love for the buyers to be someone who wants to live in it as a home, and maybe also is active in the community, or wants it to be a retreat,\u201d Johnson says. \u201cI think it\u2019s just a fantastic home.\u201d<\/p>\n
