The Hot Springs, AR<\/a>, house where\u00a0Bill Clinton<\/strong>\u00a0grew up\u00a0is available for a modest $345,000. The listing marks the property\u2019s first time on the public market.<\/p>\n

But the\u00a03,708-square-foot home, known as the Birnbaum-Shubetz House, needs an update.<\/p>\n

This six-bedroom abode is listed on the National Register of Historic Places\u2014a designation that could afford certain tax credits.<\/p>\n

Clinton lived in the house during his teenage years<\/a>, from 1954 to 1961, the period when he first identified his political aspirations. He would go on to become the governor of Arkansas and\u00a0the 42nd U.S. president.<\/p>\n

The structure was originally built as a Queen Anne-style home in 1896. It was renovated to its present Tudor Revival design in 1938.<\/p>\n

The home sits on nearly an acre, high atop North Hot Springs Park Uptown. It offers beautiful mountain views and a four-stall stable.<\/p>\n

Listing agent\u00a0Chris Rix<\/strong>, of Rix Realty Advantage Team Realtors, owns the home and says the Clintons sold it to its previous owners. Unique\u00a0legal circumstances had left the house in limbo before he purchased it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe husband declined in health and passed away, and his wife had a life estate,\u201d Rix says of the previous owners. \u201cIt ended up being stuck in a trust, so I petitioned the court to buy the property. There were vagrants living in the home at the time. I was looking to protect the home from further destruction.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the years, the space has undergone various preservation efforts and is now being renovated further. Electrical and gas-line updates are complete, and plans are underway for two new kitchens with quartz countertops and soft-close cabinets.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have had a lot of interest in the home, but I want to keep it preserved,\u201d Rix says. \u201cThe house was full of trash when I got it, but I cleaned it all up. I have the flooring and paint ready to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

The home\u2019s historic significance motivates him to ensure the work is done right, and he hopes to do most of it himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe town is really excited for the project,\u201d Rix notes. \u201cI should be able to do the work in mid-April to May. \u2026 I just want to be a good custodian, or make sure the home goes to someone who wants to preserve its history.\u201d<\/p>\n
