Checking in! With 12 bedrooms, 10 with en suite bathrooms, the historic Farris Hotel<\/a>, aka Hotel Dallas, could be just about anything.<\/p>\n

The building, just off Main Street in Eagle Lake, TX<\/a>, has come on the market with a list price of $1,650,000.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was built in 1912 and, throughout its life, it has been a hotel at least twice and then a restaurant. And the individual who owns it now is using it as a single-family residence,\u201d says Tim Grimes<\/strong> of Martha Turner Sotheby\u2019s International Realty, who is co-listing the property with Brian Spack<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are so many possibilities somebody could do with this. If somebody has an imagination and is creative, it could be something really special,\u201d Grimes adds.<\/p>\n

Built for rail travelers<\/h2>\n

Published reports say a hotel building has been on the site since the Good Hotel was built for rail travelers in 1858.<\/p>\n

At one point, Bill and Helyn Farris<\/strong> restored and operated the hotel for 20 years. Bill died in 2012, and records show the building was vacant in 2017.<\/p>\n

The current owner, who restored the building, is \u201cmoving, but is really leaving an opportunity for somebody to come in here and really take the hotel, which is a blank canvas right now, and create it into something special,\u201d Grimes says.<\/p>\n

The guest rooms are on the second floor, with the first floor housing a commercial kitchen and several dining and lounge areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you wanted to keep it as a boutique hotel, [you could] use the first floor as a restaurant and a bar area,\u201d Grimes says.<\/p>\n

There are also two communal restrooms on the lower level.<\/p>\n

The hotel is one of four buildings on the acre lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition to the hotel, you have a vintage fourplex,\u201d Grimes explains, meaning it has four separate apartments.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a filling station that she has converted into more like a greenhouse or she shed, and then in the back of the property she has built kind of like a shop with AC and plumbing,\u201d Grimes adds. \u201cIt would be a great spot for an event center or a party barn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eagle Lake is about an hour from Houston<\/a>, and Grimes says it is known for goose hunting and outdoor activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very easy commute for people wanting to get away for the weekend, and you have a really charming historic downtown that\u2019s also going through a revitalization,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n
