Chateau Artisan, the massive estate that looks like it’s rising from the water in Miami, is the personal residence of local architect Charles Sieger. It’s on the market for $21.8 million.

Sieger, who designed and built the home for himself in 2007, had “no intentions of selling the property,” says listing agent Renzo Rossato, with EXP Realty. “He really thought about it as a home that would stay with the family forever, but circumstances changed.”

The chateau was listed in 2014 for $12.8 million, then in June 2023 for $19.7 million. It was recently relisted at a markup.

“The reason for the [price] increase is really the cost of construction and the cost of everything that has just gone up. The reality is, you can’t build that home today for the price that we’re asking for it, with the quality of materials used,” Rossato says.

“If you want to replicate this property today, you wouldn’t be able to,” Rossato says. “I don’t think that you are allowed to dig out and do what they did to create the moat surrounding the home.”

Rossato adds that he first saw the home on Google Maps several years ago and has seen it as a pilot flying over the area.

“I couldn’t believe that something like that was out there. The first time physically going through the home was really breathtaking,” he says. “The photos and videos don’t really do it justice.”

The estate was built in the middle of an artificial lake and includes a three-level main home and two guesthouses. There’s a total of six bedrooms.

“The house has a beautiful large gate in the front,” Rossato says. “You have some beautiful landscaping and a lot of birds. It just adds to the uniqueness of the home.”

The lake and the land create a magnificent sanctuary, and the fountains and monuments add elegance.

“The perfect buyer for this home is somebody who is looking for something unique, something different, and looking for their privacy,” he says. “Once you’re in the home, it’s almost 14 acres total and you have no direct neighbors. Complete privacy.”

‘Not the style for everybody’

Rossato acknowledges the concrete castle design has elicited strong feelings.

“Everybody’s entitled to their opinion of the home, and we understand it’s not the style for everybody,” he says. “We get that, and it’s OK,” he says. “It wasn’t intended to be for everyone. It was something that was very personal to [the sellers] and they created it for themselves.”

But the next owners could add their personal touches.

“The house is finished with the concrete finish,” he says. “There’s no paint on the home. [A buyer] could paint it white, which will change the look of the house completely.”
