David Gergen, a former adviser to four presidents on both sides of the aisle, is looking for a buyer for his Cambridge, MA, home.

The historic four-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom residence is listed for $3.7 million. Located just down the street from Harvard University, the home offers over 3,000 square feet of living space.

Gergen was lucky when it came time to purchase a home in this college town. Apparently, he was in a local coffee shop 25 years ago when he heard the house was available—and the rest was history. He and his family lived in this upscale suburb just three miles east of Boston for a quarter-century.

Sunny and bright, with traditional built-ins, large windows, and cozy rooms, the 151-year-old structure sports charm but was also renovated in 1999. This overhaul included modern amenities and upgrades.

Hardwood floors, walk-in closets, and fireplaces are just a few of the lovely features here. There’s a formal dining room and an eat-in kitchen/family room. The “secret garden” out back features large pavers, mature trees, and perennials.

Proximity to the Charles River and Harvard Square is also part of the appeal of this home.

Gergen is a professor of public service and founding director of the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University.

Gergen advised Presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and Clinton. He has won multiple Peabody and Emmy awards for his political commentary and election coverage. He’s an author and currently works for CNN as a political analyst.
